A basket I learned to weave from my grandmother
Founded in 1886 in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, Toru Sunami Shoten manufactured mats made from rush grass. Currently, Takataka Sunami, the fifth-generation owner, hand-makes baskets one by one using the weaving technique he learned from his grandmother. The baskets, woven from rush grass ropes, are very strong. Please use them every day as a daily tool.
Trivet woven from rush grass
This trivet is made of woven rush grass. The mesh acts as a non-slip surface and provides a firm support. It is the perfect size for a pot or iron kettle for 1-2 people. It has a simple yet striking appearance, so it looks great just sitting on the table.
I love the changes that occur over time that only natural materials can offer
"Igusa" is the raw material for tatami mats. As you use it, it will become soft to the touch and turn a rich brown color. The more you use it, the more it will develop its own unique texture and you will grow to love it.
*It is made by hand using natural materials, there may be distortions in the shape, differences in color and size, etc. There may be cracks, splinters, thorns, knots, unevenness, black spots and spots, etc.
